Life has never been so easy.
For most people in the developed world, out lives are more comfortable than any generations before.
And as a result I think some people lack ambition.
What I mean specifically, is that they have no confidence in themselves, to put their BIG HAIRY SCARY GOALS out there. And they definitely, have NO idea of what they re truly capable of as they’ve never had to push themselves.
In fact, quite often, I have more confidence in what they can achieve, than they do themselves.
Case in point:
Mary came to me before New Year and said, I d like to lose 10lbs by February X and she gave me a date which was gave her about 8 weeks ahead, and I said:
“Mary, you can lose 10lbs in the first month”.
I vaguely remember she also said something along the lines of “I’ve never lost that much before”. That’s probably Mary s rationalisation hamster (brain) telling her “you can’t do that”. (you don’t listen to your rationalisation hamster do you?)
Anyway, she has lost 8lbs, in the first three weeks, and in her own words is “more than pleased”.
Mary is now fully committed to doing everything she can to reach her target, 10lbs in 4 weeks, she is now a believer.
How did I know she could lose close to 10lbs in 4 weeks? because last year I kept data on all my members and, low and behold, that was the average weight loss. (one man broke our biggest weight loss in a week recently, by losing 17lbs)
My point in all this babbling: be ambitious, don’t be afraid, set a BIG HAIRY SCARY GOAL. The worst thing that can happen is you don’t reach your goal, but will get some results, the best thing that can happen – you might surprise yourself and change what you think is possible.
In my biased opinion, a great place to start making “mental breakthroughs” like this is of course by following my programme.
