Someone emailed and asked me a question and it wasn’t the normal health and fitness type question I get.
“Rich, How come you charge more than anyone else? What’s so different about you?”
Cheeky buggers some people eh ;-).
In fairness people often want to know this stuff.
To be honest it makes me a little uncomfortable when people want me to justify my prices, I could say if you can’t figure it out we are probably not meant for each other but that’s a bit rude and grumpy, but I like a cheeky question, it’s often what other people are thinking and afraid to ask.
So today I will explain it for anyone who was wondering or can’t figure it out.
Of course all the information as to “why” is available online, my CV, my background and all that jazz.
Basically I charge more because my results are better, I’m more experienced, better qualified and able to deal with high risk health problems such as people who have had a heart attack or a stroke.
People often say they come to me because I can keep them safe and I look after them, at the same time as improving their fitness.
When you hire me, you pay for my tool box. My tool box is crammed with over 18 years of quality experience, (and some great jokes too).
I am very confident that I’m one of the best, at what I do, and I can’t be touched when it comes to working with 40-60 somethings, its my thing and always has been.
When you compare me to other personal trainers, and do it based on price, you will see that I’m three or four times more expensive than the majority of trainers.
However if you also look, without being a braggart or sounding too much like a dick I’m far more experienced than most.
I am an exercise scientist by trade and have a Bsc (Hons) in the subject.
I have had sports medicine research published in two major medical journals, the BMJ being one of them.
I have worked in cardiac rehabilitation for over 12 years and ran a successful GP referral programme for over 6 years.

I have always studied sports medicine and injuries and combine this knowledge with my exercise and nutrition skills to best help people.
I have always invested in my ongoing professional development by attending seminars and training courses, often spending thousands of pounds each year (for over 18 years).
I have a GP, endocrinologist, physiotherapist and other specialist I can refer to and consult with about my clients problems.
Plus last time I checked I’m a human (some of these trainers are just robots who have great bodies and eat food out of tupperware containers all day long, and don’t “get” their clients can’t do that shit).
Compare that with a “youngster” or other newly qualified trainers out there.
1. They may have qualified in 6-12 weeks.
2. They claim to be an expert or even a “guru” (love that one) but have done very little in their career to justify such a claim.
3. They only know how to “beast people”.
4. They know very little about health and don’t take it into consideration when making decisions.
5. They work alone, and don’t refer to others.
6. In effect many are just apprentices.
My whole approach to diet and weight loss is different to most other people – who do what I do.
I understand people like a treat and a bit of a rest on the weekend after a hard week.
I understand people are not machines and like to enjoy life.
I try to help people find the balance point for them. Basically we try to establish how many treats can you eat/drink without it affecting your health and fitness.
People I know want the best of both worlds.
They wanna be fit and healthy.
But they wanna enjoy a pint or a meal out or some chocolate without it affecting them too much.
That’s what’s different about me, I try to teach people how they can have their cake and eat it.

PS – If you wanna learn my tried and tested approach on how to reclaim your health you will need to take the first step of filling out an application form here.
You have two options, private training (1 or 2 people) or semi-private training (small groups of 4).
With the private training I have some daytime and evening slots for December and January. This is a twice a week gig that’s £300 per month.
In the groups I have one space on a Monday night for a lucky lady who likes to have a laugh and wants to get fitter. Its half an hour once a week. All the girls are in differing states of repair and in their 40’s and 50’s (mentally some are in their teens).
Plus I still have one space in my “mens exercise for cancer group”. The other men are in their late 50’s and 60’s and its very gentle and specific, to help them recover from their cancer. We have a cup of tea for our warm up.
Contact me if you have any questions, we can get on the phone for a chat if you need, I don’t bite (that hard) ;-).
Not managed to get the podcast edited on time but if you if you are keen to listen and want to check, it will be up over the weekend or Monday.
