7lbs in 12 days.
That’s the amount of weight my wife put on this Christmas.
That’s a lot of weight for a small lady like her.

She is now of course getting back on track.
She knows what to do.
Normally it will be off within a month or so and she will be back to around 8 stone.
Trouble is her back has gone – badly – thankfully she can stand up straight enough to run the hoover round ;-0.
She suffers with a chronic condition called Ankylosing Spondylitis, which is made worse by too much alcohol and too much sugar and processed foods.
Lots of people will suffer with their backs knees and shoulders after Xmas because their bodies have been abused.
They are dehydrated, inflamed and out of balance.
This makes EXISTING problems WORSE.
Muscles and joints just “go pop” because they are so tight.
This is what happened to Mrs C’s lower back, which was an exacerbation of an existing problem.
So for my wife, the usual routine of…
– Bootcamp
– A run with the dogs
– Pilates
…Is out of the question – for now.
But luckily for her, and my clients for that matter – I have taught them that getting back in shape is not dependent on being able to train.
In the short term not being able to exercise is not a major problem.
If you get your food right you will see results REGARDLESS of exercise.
This is my approach, based on nearly 20 years experience and as an EXERCISE scientist.

Exercise is not the most important thing – FOOD IS.
For some people they approach it differently.
They exercise like mad for 3-5 hrs a week and keep the food more or less the same – and this does work too, if you can maintain the exercise routine.
Trouble is, one approach can leave you feeling empowered and IN control and one can leave you feeling OUT of control and vulnerable.
The people who “train hard” 3-5 times a week can actually get depressed and have withdrawal symptoms when they can’t train this frequently, or train at all.
They get a bit like my Jack Russell’s when they haven’t had a walk – a BIG pain in the arse.
So that’s why I teach things differently.
The exercise “addicts” don’t like this and we don’t usually work together for very long.
My wife and clients are not slaves to the gym.
Of course they like to exercise, because it makes them feel good and improves their body in so many ways, but they know they don’t have to exercise to get in shape or stay in shape.
They know what they need to do and they know all the MAGIC happens in the KITCHEN not in the gym.

PS – In this week’s podcast we discuss:
– What foods can help fight a cold during the winter?
– Are there any exercises or stretches to help a man suffering badly with neck and shoulder pain due to a congenital fusion between C1-2 and a partial fusion between C2-3?
– What exercises can you do when you get a cold?
– A ladies results were discussed after going to her doctor, she was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and wanted some advice.
And more of course.
