I read this the other day:
“It is better to be slapped by the truth than kissed by a lie.”
Anyone who has been a subscriber for a while will know I love quotes, sayings and words in general.
And that one is a cracker.
The truth is quite a rare commodity.
Most people, quite rightly, don’t go around dropping “truth bombs” on people.
Lets imagine your friend asks your opinion about her hair, you think it’s terrible, but you tell them that you think “it’s nice, where did you have it done?” (you’re thinking: so I can avoid the bloody place)”.
But you certainly wouldn’t just tell them the truth and that “it looks terrible”.
You probably think it will hurt them or upset them.
And it probably would.
But after the sting they get from being SLAPPED by the TRUTH, are they better off?
Like when I stupidly dared to mention to Rosie, my 19 year old step daughter that she needed to lose a bit of weight from around her tummy.
Went down like a lead balloon.
Bad timing I guess.
She got upset and went crying to her mum.
Whoops.
I’m such a wicked step dad. I didn’t mean to upset her, I was concerned, as she gains weight so fast.
Anyway, a day or so after all the “drama”, of being slapped by the truth, she decided to started a diet and dropped 10lbs quite quickly.
So in Rosie’s case, it was better to be slapped by the truth, than kissed by a lie.
And every now and again, I have to “slap the truth” on my clients, and give them a reality check.
I’m a coach and I get paid to help people change their lives, so for me it’s part of my job NOT to bullshit people and be truthful, even if it hurts a little.
It’s for the BEST.
That’s all for today, catch you on the my morrow dear friend.
