20 years experience has taught me there are not many guarantees in life.
When your uncle Ricardo was a much younger lad, I ran an exercise referral scheme and used to get sent over 600 people a year from local GP’s.
I did it for over 6 years, so I saw a fair few thousand people. We used to put people through a 12 week programme of exercise.
Most people were overweight and depressed, so they really wanted to drop a few lbs and they would ask me:
“How much weight will I lose?”.
I would say “1-2lbs a week” which was the standard response.
Over the years the trouble was not everyone did drop weight. Loads of people didn’t shift a single pound.
(not many fitness trainers will admit to that, but it’s the truth, some people don’t lose any weight)
In their defence, these clients had multiple health problems and they took lots of medication, this can put the kibosh on weight loss. (That’s not to say it’s impossible to lose weight, it’s not, it just takes a little more patience).
BUT despite not losing weight, OR seeing any changes in their situation, people would always say how much better they felt in themselves.
How you FEEL dictates how EVERYTHING else in your life goes down, and is a HUGE deal.
So my advice for you, after delivering exercise, weighing and measuring thousands of people, for years is:
“the only guarantee I can give is that you will feel a damn sight better after a few months of regular, light exercise”.
This is a big deal for those feeling overweight and depressed. Exercise is the most underused anti depressant in the world, and it’s highly successful too. And don’t be scared by the word exercise, walking will suffice.
